Gyoza – Chinese or Japanese?

Gyoza typically consists of a thin piece of dough stuffed with meat and/or vegetables. It is either pan-fried, boiled or steamed but always delicious!

Gyoza, however, is actually a variation of Jiaozi (饺子 ) which is a type of Chinese dumpling. The word itself actually comes from the Shandong Chinese dialect (giaozi).


Did you know?

Chinese people eat jiaozi with their family at midnight on Chinese New Year’s Eve in order to provide success and prosperity because, during the Ming Dynasty, Jiaozi looked like golden ingots.
